When More Leads to More

A few years after this great outpouring of the Spirit, things were still going quite well. In fact, the numbers were increasing daily, and miracles would shake an entire city. Peter and John released a miracle to a lame man that seemed to shake up everyone (see Acts 3:1–10). They were credited as having great boldness. As a result, they were arrested, interrogated, persecuted, and finally released. Upon their release they went to a prayer meeting and prayed for more boldness.

And not, Lord, take note of their threats, and grant that Your bond-servants may speak Your word with all confidence, while You extend Your hand to heal, and signs and wonders take place through the name of Your holy servant Jesus (Acts 4:29–30).

And the Spirit of God came in again. We always need more. Many who speak in tongues think they are full of the Holy Spirit. Being full of Holy Spirit is not evidenced in tongues; it is evidenced by being full. How do you know when a glass is completely full? It runs over. Peter, on the day of Pentecost, is filled with Holy Spirit. In Acts 4, Peter joins many others in a prayer meeting. Their overwhelming expression was to cry out for more. Peter prayed for more. He did not pray for relief in the midst of persecution, but instead for more boldness, that expression that sometimes offends, so that he could go deeper into the realms of darkness and pull out more victims. And the Bible says:

And when they had prayed, the place where they had gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak the word of God with boldness (Acts 4:31).

In Acts 2, Peter is filled. In Acts 4, he needs to be refilled. Why? If you are doing this right, you must get filled often. There is one baptism. But we are to live in such a way that we give away all we get, while our capacity for Him increases. When we live full of the Holy Spirit, experiencing overflow, only more of Him will do. Needing to be refilled is not a sign of something gone wrong. Continual dependence on more is a good thing.

Prayed…

We thank You for Your wonderful presence
Shine through us, Lord, that we would be a light in the darkness
None of us, and all of You!
Your presence is operating in and through us today!
By the anointing of Your Holy Spirit, we will bring Your love to those in need
Declaring that we will be a light in the darkness and we will shine bright the glory of God!
Thank You, Father, that there is more and there will continue to be more of Your presence
We will continually be baptized in Your Spirit, and we will be refilled again and again with Your Spirit
Yes, we will walk in the overflow, and that overflow will change those that come in contact with it
Father, we need You more in every way, we need, want, and yearn for You
Calling for the family of God to be completely filled and satisfied in and through You, Father
Satisfied in every area of our lives, satisfied in spirit, soul, and body!
We come with our hearts yearning and longing for more of You
You have so much more for us, and so much more work for us to do, and so we must have more of You
Declaring that You who have begun a good work in us will see to it to the day of completion
Thank You for Your holy written Word, Your Word is truth, it is life, it is marrow to our bones, and healing to our flesh
We are so thankful for the freedom and liberty to come together and to seek Your face
Yes, we will cooperate with You in the great work of prayer

Worldly Concerns Replace Spiritual Priorities

Whereas the faith and disciplined work ethic of the first generation Puritans had produced prosperity, for many second and third generation Puritans the prosperity itself became the goal. As the well-known Puritan pastor, Cotton Mather, put it, “Religion begat prosperity and the daughter devoured the mother.”

The following was also shared during Morning Prayer:

Morning (Spurgeon)
July 15

“The fire shall ever be burning upon the altar; it shall never go out” Lev. 6:13

Keep the altar of private prayer burning. This is the very life of all piety. Burn here the fat of your sacrifices. Let your private devotions be, if possible, regular, frequent, and undisturbed. Effectual prayer availeth much. Have you nothing to pray for? Let us suggest the Church, the ministry, your neighbors, your country, and the cause of God and truth throughout the world. Let us examine ourselves on this important matter. Do we engage in private devotion with lukewarmness? Is the fire of devotion burning dimly in our hearts? If so, be alarmed at this sign of decay. Let us ask for the Spirit of grace and of supplication. Let us set apart special periods of extraordinary prayer. For if this fire should be smothered beneath the ashes of a worldly conformity, it will dim the fire on the family altar and lessen our influence both in the Church and in the world. The text will also apply to the altar of the heart. This is a golden altar indeed. God loves to see the hearts of His people glowing toward Himself. Let us give God our hearts, blazing with love and seeking His grace, that the fire may never be quenched. It will not burn if the Lord does not keep it burning. Many adversaries will attempt to extinguish it. Let us use scriptures as fuel for our heart’s fire; they are live coals. Let us attend sermons, but above all let us be much alone with Jesus.

Continued Praying…

Father, we ask that every fire would burn brightly on the altar of every heart
That there would be one thing that matters, and that one thing is You!
We ask that there would be a shunning of worldly things and worldly ways
Yes, we will turn away from those things that are not of You, Lord
Declaring that we as the church would partake of the living bread, Father
Bread that the world knows not of, and meat that is sustenance from Your very hand
For the world is lost and hungry and we as the church must give freely of what we have received
We are looking for a great revival and awakening for the church of the living God
Give us ears to hear and eyes to see, that apart from You we have nothing, we are nothing
Thank You for a greater revelation of who You are, that we may be a light to those in need
Yes, Lord, we receive all that You have given and provided through Christ Jesus
In You, we have everything we need, we are clothed, we are fed, we are sustained, and empowered
We need You more, but, Father, there is a truth that You need more of us!
More of us to do the task that is at hand, which is the high calling in Christ Jesus
No, we are not in this alone; You are with us every step of the way!
Give us eyes to see the big picture, as You, our Father God, sees!
We thank You for an overflow of Your goodness and mercy in these last days, Father
Declaring for the winds of Your Spirit to blow all across this land, Lord
Set our hearts on fire, O God
Give us words to pierce and penetrate the hearts of men
No, there would no longer be empty words, but that You would grant unto us words from heaven
Words that will equip and strengthen the saints and words that would bring eternal life
Words that will ignite and set on fire the hearts of Your children
We need You more, more in the fivefold ministry gifts, Father
Strengthen them by Your Spirit, let them see once again the vision You have set in their hearts, Lord
Let them dust off the dreams and the plans that You gave, let them be encouraged, Father
Pour that life-giving water in them and on them once again
By Your mercy and by Your grace, we will finish Your will and Your plan
Father, we are asking for healings and restoration in families
Those families that have been torn apart, we ask for them to be brought back together again
You are a good, good Father
We are asking for an increase in relationships, Lord
This nation was founded on Your Word, and we thank you that this nation would be a refuge
You have a purpose and a plan for America, and we plead the blood of Jesus over it today!
We thank You for the great awakening that is taking place in America!
There is nothing apart from You, that can bring about the change in this nation!
Father, we plead the blood of Jesus over President Trump and his family
We pray and lift up every staff member, every advisor, spiritual advisor, and every cabinet member
Declaring that no weapon formed against them shall or will prosper in the name of Jesus
Give President Trump wisdom from the highest kingdom, strengthen him in his inner man, Lord
Strengthen Vice President Pence and his family
Continue to feed him with Your Word and with Your Spirit
Thank You for the cleansing blood that is sweeping across this nation, Father
That void must be filled with You, with Your Word, with Your presence, and with Your glory, Lord God
The church is rising up, and filling in those places of need
There is help and there is healing in the precious blood of Jesus!
Yes, there are great days ahead, great days for the manifestations and operations of Your Spirit
We lift up those that are going out preaching the uncompromised Word of God
Praying and believing for more and more doors to be opened, Father
That there would be greater venues and avenues to preach the Gospel
No, we will not be ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ
You have granted unto us boldness and courage to preach the Gospel in these last days
We ask for supernatural strength for the church of the living God
Thank You for grace, favor, and blessings today, Lord
Calling for increase there, for healing and restoration there, Father
Declaring for spiritual growth in the body of Christ today!
We are founded and grounded upon Your Word and filled with Your presence
Fill us to overflowing; we believe we have eyes to see and ears to hear what You are calling us to do
Thank You for the manifested presence that is operating in and through us
We believe that we overcome because You overcame!
That blood that was shed is working on our behalf today!
Thank You for the ministry of Your Spirit and for the strengthening of Your Spirit
We believe for revival in our hearts and in our land, Lord
Worthy, worthy, worthy are You, Lord
We give You all the glory, honor, and praise today!
Give us a greater revelation of who You are, Father
