Morning Chapel Prayer Playlist
Morning Chapel Prayer Today

Pastor Heather…

Good morning, everybody. Welcome to Tuesday morning prayer. Thank you for joining us in person and online. My name is Heather and I’m one of the pastors at Living Word church.

Jesus and the madman at Gadarenes…

I was reading today in Luke 8 about the story of the madman from Gadarenes. I’m not going to read the whole story. But basically, Jesus crosses over and then they meet this man who has been tormented by demons and is ruled by these demons, running around without clothes on and running among the tombs. And they couldn’t even chain him.

Jesus asked, “What’s your name?”

So I always wondered… It was kind of odd because Jesus comes up to him and says, “What’s your name?” I was like, “Why did you want to know their name, Lord?” But He says, “What’s your name?” He answered “Legion,” for many demons had entered him. So Legion back in that day was like the Roman army, like a legion of a military group, that would be about 6,000 soldiers. So think of that for a second. About 6,000 demons were inside of this man.

Think of the spiritual capacity we have inside us…

Think of the spiritual capacity that we have. Like, let’s flip that now, right? Obviously, we don’t want 6,000 demons in us, but how big is our spirit that 6,000 demons could live in one man? How much more can the power of God be operating inside of us?

And then, of course, He casts them out and He gives them permission to go into the pigs. And they say like, about 2,000 pigs like ran off the cliff and into the water. When He asked him, “What’s your name.” I always thought maybe He was asking the demon what its name was. I feel as I’m reading it this morning, the Lord impressed my heart, “I was asking the man what his name was because I wanted him to remember who he was created to be.”

What’s your name?

And so today I ask you, “What’s your name? Who are you? How much spiritual capacity do you have inside of you?”

Just before Jesus crosses over to heal this man, to set him free, it was literally the only thing He did. And then He went back again. And this man was set free, obviously, and was in his sound mind, sitting at Jesus’ feet. And the Passion translation says he begged Him to stay. He begged to go with Him. And He said, “No, you stay here. This is your place and you tell everybody about what I did for you.”

So think of the evangelist that man became. Being set free from such a demonic power. People couldn’t even chain him.

Jesus in the boat…

But before this happens, you have the story of Jesus in the boat. And they’re crossing over to come set this man free. And we all know what happens, right? Jesus falls asleep and this huge storm whips up and the disciples freak out. They’re like, “Get up, get up. We’re dying. We’re going to perish. Don’t You care?” And He basically says, “Where’s your faith?”

And so I feel like He knows… I mean, obviously He knows. He knows what He’s going to do. He knows He’s about to set this man free from 6,000 demons. And here are His disciples with all this capacity inside of them to speak to waves, to take their authority, and they’re freaking out and waking up Jesus.

But isn’t that us sometimes?

We have this huge capacity, this spiritual capacity inside of us and what’s inside of us? The Holy Spirit, the power of God. And back in those days, of course, you think of the children of Israel. They had to go fire by night, cloud by day. They had to follow that fire. Or you think Moses. He saw the burning bush. But on the day of Pentecost, we all know what happened. Every person got their individual tongue of fire. So that fire, that power, was put into every single believer. So we are full of that power. We are full of that fire. And what if we truly believed, fully, the power that we had inside of us.

We wouldn’t be walking around afraid.
We wouldn’t be walking around depressed.
We wouldn’t be walking around anxious.

We have the capacity inside us to house the Holy Spirit…

Because we would know that we have that capacity to have the Holy Spirit, the fire of God, inside of us, to command 6,000 demons to flee. So the Holy Spirit isn’t just this little thing in our hearts. We have this huge spiritual capacity. He made us a spirit that could house the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of God, inside of us.

Prayed…

So we thank you for the power of the Holy Spirit.
Thank you, Father, that you choose to indwell us as vessels.
We repent for any time we’ve taken that for granted. We’ve neglected that. We haven’t believed that.
We believe the things we’ve seen with our eyes more than the things we know in our spirit.
Show us, Father, bring us back to a place of being led by the Spirit of God.
Not by our natural head, not by what seems right and good, but by the Holy Spirit.

Exhortation…

So let’s step into that now. Let’s speak in tongues. I want you to engage the power of the Holy Spirit inside of you because we forget that we have dynamite power inside of us. We can speak to situations and they have to change. They cannot remain the same. And so we don’t cower before situations. We remind ourselves today that we are a spirit being, that we are led by the Holy Spirit. We’re not led by our heads. We’re not led by situations. We’re not led by circumstances. We have the Holy Spirit inside of us living, breathing, moving, guiding, comforting.

Declarations…

Now stir it up. Stir it up. Stir it up.
So now what’s your situation? You speak to it. You have the power of the Holy Spirit.
Demons must flee, 6,000 demons when you open your mouth with the power of the Holy Spirit.
So we step into that now… we step back into our place of authority.
And we say, “No, no, no, Devil. You will not have your way in our lives… in this church.
“You will not have your way in Brooklyn Park. You will not have your way in Minnesota.
“No, no, no. You will not have your way in the United States or even in the world because we take our authority.”
We are seated with Him in heavenly places.
And we declare that we are led by the Spirit of God.
And we push back darkness with the authority of our voices.
You are bound, Devil. You have no power here.
You have no power in this building.
You have no power in our lives.
You have no power in our familes.
Because we walk in the authority that was given to us by Jesus Christ.
We have the Spirit of the living God inside of us.
So we fire that up. We fire up those embers.
No more sleeping… no more sleepwalking… no more laziness.
Let’s go now. It is time, Church. If not now when?
Because we are placed in this place for such a time as this.
Make no mistake. You are where you are now because God has placed you here for such a time as this.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. So it’s time for miracles now.
It’s time for signs and wonders now.
Let the church be the church.
Yeah. So we step into that power.
We take back our place.
We take back any ground we have given up to the enemy now.
And we say, “No more! In the name of Jesus.”
Oh, no, no, no. We take up residence.
We are seated with Him in heavenly places.
Things we bind on earth are bound in heaven.
Things we loose on earth are loosed in heaven.
So we loose the power of God now. We loose it.
We bind the power of the enemy in this church, in our lives, in our families, in our communities, in this nation.
And we loose Holy Spirit. We say “Go, go, go, go, spirits! Do what you need to do.”
Turning, turning, turning. A turning around now.
Take up your space. Take up your place.
