Morning Chapel Prayer Today
Prayer leader Cindy…
Good morning, everybody. Welcome to morning prayer.
Like babies, we are dependent on the Lord…
I’ve been meditating on the fact that we’re just like little babies. We’re so dependent on the Lord. But He comes and fills us with His purpose, His direction, fills us with His thoughts so that we might be filled to the overflowing with what He has purpose for today. This is the day that the Lord is made, so we will rejoice and be glad in it. For He is sitting in heaven laughing and giving ear to hear what the Spirit is saying today to the church. Hallelujah.
Prayed…
Lord, we lift up the basket that we would gain understanding and knowledge about what is going on in the earth today.
Because you’ve known from the very beginning and you have a plan.
So we inquire and we require and we don’t lean unto our own understanding.
But in all our ways, we acknowledge you and you do lead and guide and direct us perfectly.
Lord, when we just loose and relax our hold on having to know and take control, we say you are our knower and you can come and take control. Take complete control. Hallelujah.
Because we trust you. We trust you with the ever-growing trust.
Because even in our doubt, you come and shore up and strengthen and confirm us because of our willingness to step out even when we don’t know all of what it is you’re calling us into.
But, Father, we do know you and we know your way and that your plans are good for each and every one of us individually.
So today we delight to know you more.
Prayer leader Kay…
It’s getting to be Easter, right? And a lot happened in Jesus’ time, just before He went to the cross. I think it’s important that in times and seasons, we try to put ourselves in Jesus’ timeframe. And what was going on with Him and what would we be feeling if we were there?
Jesus told His disciples where He was going…
So I was picturing myself listening to Jesus as He was speaking. And I’m thinking of John 16. He had just finished washing the disciples’ feet and He’s teaching them. And, I picture myself sitting there listening. And there’s truths… truth that comes out that is relevant for our time now. And, I don’t think they understood actually. Jesus said, “I’m going to go away to the Father and I’m going to make a place for you there. And then you will follow and you will come.”
The disciples didn’t understand Him…
And I think it was Thomas, he goes, “Where are you going? And how are we going to get there if we don’t even know where you’re going?” Like, we don’t know the roads. We don’t even know where you’re headed. Like maybe you’re going to St. Paul, maybe you’re going to North Branch. How do we know? And so very real people in very real situations.
The conversation shifted…
But Jesus takes a turn here. And when I read this to you, I don’t want you to go where your brain usually goes. Because the brain, when it hears these words, it usually goes right to a fear place. But there is a principle here. So Jesus says He will send you the divine encourager from the very presence of My Father. He will come to you. The Spirit of truth emanating from the Father. And He will speak to you about Me, and He will tell everyone the truth about Me.
So this is good stuff, right? But then He says, “I have told this to you so you would not surrender to confusion or doubt. For you will be excommunicated from the synagogues. A time is coming when you will be put to death by misguided ones who will presume to be doing God a great service by putting you to death.” So things have shifted in the conversation.
The overarching truth…
And you picture yourself being there and it’s like, “This is not a happy thought. This is not what I was thinking.” This is like you’re sending this comforter… Because on the other side of the cross, we know it’s a comforter that comes. But we also know the truth. And I want to focus on the overarching truth, not this one little part.
“But they will do these things because they don’t know anything about the Father or Me. I’m telling you this so when the time comes, you will remember that I foretold it to you.” So what I want you to focus on, not that we might be being put to death or excommunicated. Because, He told them that ahead of time. Right in this whole passage of this whole discourse, this whole conversation of Jesus with us, Jesus with His people because He also says, “I don’t pray just for these people. I pray for those to come.” That’s us. And Jesus said… Well, actually, He says it right here. “And when the truth-giving Spirit comes [Holy Spirit]… He’s come. Right? And when He comes, He will unveil the reality of every truth within you. He won’t speak of His own message, but only that which He hears from the Father. And He will reveal prophetically to you what is to come.
He will show us what is to come…
So He just gave an example. And we do know from history and from the scriptures that what He told them actually came to pass. So I just have had this in my mind. But when I cared to listen and ask Him, “What’s going on around me now? What’s happening, Lord? Show me things to come.” And I’m not talking, for me anyway, where my mind goes. It’s not like World War. It’s usually what’s going to happen in my life and where am I right now, and my family and my things. And He has many times told me what’s coming up. And I’ll give an example.
Example of revealing of what is to come…
A few years ago, I was out walking in a field praying and praying and praying and communing with the Father. Very sweet. And He told me, “Satan’s laying a trap right now for you to get into strife.” Oh, okay. So it was shortly thereafter that I came into a room and somebody literally attacked me for something I didn’t do. Now I have a feisty personality. But He had warned me. And so I kept my mouth shut and said, “Oh, this is from the Devil. He’s laying a trap for me. Not this person. The Devil laid a trap for me. I am not falling into this one.” And I didn’t even get my emotions going. Nothing. I was just like, “Oh, you know what? I’m so sorry that that… whatever.” I don’t remember what I said. But it didn’t go anywhere. Because I had been warned in advance.
We can lean into that aspect of Holy Spirit…
So we have that aspect of the Father and of the Holy Spirit that if we want to lean into it, He will show us things to come in our lives. So now when I was praying out in that field that day, my mind was totally somewhere else. I wasn’t asking Him, “What’s going to happen in my life next?” I wasn’t. But because He’s faithful, He warned me. And yeah, strife is coming. The enemy is going to lay a trap of strife for you.
So I just want us to maybe pray out a little bit. The Holy Spirit is here and Cindy said something about God is always with us. Do you know it’s impossible for Him not to be present with you? He lives in you! He is always with you, and He’s always speaking truth. So I’m just going to start praying in the spirit. I want us just to pray out, just start praying in the spirit and let Him lead you where you go in this and where we go. And you guys jump in whenever you feel Holy Spirit.
