That so perfectly fits with what I have today. I was reading something earlier this week by Andrew Murray. It’s from a convention that he preached just a few years ago in 1897. It’s entitled, “The Kingdom of God.” As I read it, I thought, “this sounds like it was preached yesterday.” It’s so relevant. I’m going to read a little bit of it to you.

I
The Kingdom of God

The first meeting of a Convention in a new place is often a difficult one. The most of us are strangers to each other. An atmosphere of prayer and love has hardly yet been created. We do not know whether all understand the object of our meeting. But I am sure we may look to our Father in heaven to melt our hearts into one. We can ask Him by His Holy Spirit to make us of one heart and one mind in seeking His glory, in trusting His mighty power, and in looking to Him alone for a blessing. Let us all from the very commencement of our Convention look to God, not only for what each one needs for himself, but as members of one body, with the fervent prayer that there may be a blessing for all. Let us unite ourselves before God as a company of His own dear children, full of love to each other, and with the confident assurance that He will bless us. Our Father, do Thou melt our hearts into one by Thy Holy Spirit. Thou knowest the need of each one; let Thy word meet it. Give Thy servants grace so to speak that Thy children may know what their God has for them, and what they may expect Him to do for them.

The words from which I wish to speak to-night you will find in Mark x. 15:“Verily I say unto you, whosoever shall not receive the Kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.”

Listen again: “Verily I say unto you, whosoever shall not receive the Kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.” We need at the opening of our Convention to look forward to all that we are going to speak and to hear during the coming days, and to try and take our right place before God. I think this word of the Lord Jesus will guide us exactly where we ought to be. It will tell us what God asks of us if we are even now to enter His Kingdom and live in it: that each of us receive it into our hearts as a little child. These are the two things we need to know, to enter into the enjoyment of a full salvation. With these two things all our Convention teaching will be occupied: the wonderful blessing God has for us, the wonderful way in which we are to become possessors of it.

My text has…

FOUR SIMPLE EXPRESSIONS

that we need to understand if we are to enter into its meaning and power. We must ask: 1. What is the Kingdom of God? 2. What is it to enter the Kingdom? 3. What to receive the Kingdom? 4. What to receive the Kingdom as a little child?

First: What is the Kingdom of God? You know how both John the Baptist preached that the Kingdom of God or of heaven had come nigh. During the Old Testament times it had been spoken of, and promised, and hoped for, but it had not come. During the life of Christ on earth there were mighty tokens of its coming and its nearness, but it had not yet come in power. What it would be Christ foretold when He once said, “the Kingdom of God is within you;” and another time, “There be some standing here who shall not see death, till they see the Kingdom of God come in power.” On the day of Pentecost that word was fulfilled. The Holy Spirit brought down out of heaven the Kingdom of God into the hearts of the disciples, and they went forth and preached the Gospel of the Kingdom not as at hand or coming, but as come.  It is not difficult now to answer the question

WHAT IS THE KINGDOM OF GOD?

It is that spiritual state in which the life of God and of heaven is made accessible to men, and they enter into its enjoyment here on earth.

Barb interjects…

Did you get that? Heaven assessible to men. And they enter into its enjoyment here on earth.

Article continues…

If we ask what its marks are we find the answer in the wondrous change we see in the life of the disciples.

The mark of a kingdom is the presence of the king. With the Holy Spirit Christ came down to be with His disciples as really, and more nearly, than when He was with them in the flesh.

Barb interjected…

This is us! The kingdom of God is in us! Jesus in us more than it was with the disciples when He walked with them in the flesh.

Article continues…

The abiding nearness and fellowship of Christ, and in Him of God the Father, is the very central blessing of the Kingdom. This experience was what the Holy Spirit at Pentecost made real. The disciples had their Lord with them as consciously as the angels in heaven. His presence made heaven all around and in them. A believer to whom a full entrance into the Kingdom is given, has the Presence.

I’m not going to read this whole thing. It’s really long. But you guys should go online and read it. It’s excellent. But we have the kingdom on the inside of us. He said in the last days He would pour out His Spirit. Out of His Spirit. Well, we know He came down and went into the disciples. But where is His Spirit now? Here. His Spirit is in us. So out of His Spirit, out of His spirit here on the inside of you, He’s going to flow. Out of His Spirit, He’s going to do miracles. Sometimes we look around and say, “Okay, that’s for the Pastor. That’s for the person in the pulpit.” No! That’s you. You as the body. You’re the one to walk in that place where He’s allowed to pour out of His Spirit through you on a daily basis. The Spirit of God. That’s why I like that song so much. Fill us with your glory. Are we letting Him? Here He is in His kingdom, Jesus the King, are we letting Him fill us every single day with His glory? To permeate us.

I remember years ago when brother Kenneth Hagin was alive. He said when he would minister that he could sense the anointing coming out from him. I think he said ten feet. Don’t quote me on that. But I’m pretty sure that’s right. But he could feel it go out about ten feet from him when he was ministering. So he would get close to someone and if they would enter in that space, down they went because of the anointing of God on them.

As we read in the Scriptures, we know that as they walked through the streets, that Peter’s shadow would fall on someone and that shadow would heal the people. Some people say maybe not even a natural shadow but a spiritual, that coming out from the kingdom on the inside. It was coming out of him. So as he walked by, the power of God was delivering the people. And that’s who we are. And that’s what we’re supposed to be walking in today as the body of Christ. We’re not supposed to be looking to the preacher, you know, looking to the evangelist. Wherever we’re going every single day, we’re supposed to be looking for that same shadow to come out of us. The Holy Spirit. God flowing out of us by His Spirit. And it starts with us, letting His glory completely permeate our being. It starts here in this place, so that as you go out that your well, you have full provision. And you’re walking in that place in the kingdom. And you’re carrying the kingdom with you everywhere that you go.

I remember one of the ministers that we have here, Mark Hankins, he used to say jokingly how people would come to the Camp Meeting at church and he said, “That’s when they would let the Holy Ghost out. Okay, you’ve been good, Holy Ghost, we’re going to let You out for Camp Meeting. Then after, You get right back in and maybe next year, I’ll let You out again.” Well, we shouldn’t be like that. We should be, “God, here we are; live through us today. We’re Your vessel. What do You want us to do for You today? Did you want us to stop and speak to someone?” Are we just going to walk by that person that’s walking with a cane. Would Jesus just walk by someone or would He stop and minister? We have to let the kingdom reign and not let self reign. So we just let His glory come and fill us, so we can put self down and let Him reign as the King of this kingdom. Thank You, Lord. As Mary sings, think of His presence coming all through you, letting His spirit permeate your being. Let Him soak you.

We must respond. We must keep pressing to those unctions. As He leads us and guides us every step of the way whether at work or the grocery store. Responding. Greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world. We’re filled with Him. With His glory. Filled with His purpose. We have what others might need. We have Him. Can you imagine when Jesus told the disciples, “Okay, I’m going away.” Ahhh! “But I’m going to send someone and it’s going to be better.” They probably couldn’t even imagine that. What? How could it be better with You, Jesus? But then when the day of Pentecost came, they had a revelation, right? Okay, we understand. You came to live in us! By Your Spirit. This is amazing. You’re here with us. Glory to God.

And if there is anyone today that maybe you’ve never received the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues. If you’re in this room or watching online today, it’s an amazing gift. And to be able to pray in tongues, the Bible says sometimes when you don’t know how to pray… you have no idea how to pray about something, well, the Holy Spirit on the inside of you will have the words. They’ll just come up out of you as you yield to Him. He knows how to pray about every situation perfectly. You don’t have to know in your own mind. So right now, if you need to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues, just receive that now as we sing this song again. Just receive Him. Begin to speak. Open your mouth, and begin to speak out the words that come up by the Holy Spirit, that utterance that comes from Him.
