Scripture Focus…

But the end and culmination of all things has now come near; keep sound minded and self-restrained and alert therefore for [the practice of] prayer.
(1 Peter 4:7 AMPC)

Be faithful to pray as intercessors who are fully alert and giving thanks to God.
(Colossians 4:2 TPT)

Be earnest and unwearied and steadfast in your prayer [life], being [both] alert and intent in [your praying] with thanksgiving.
(Colossians 4:2 AMPC)

O Jerusalem, I have posted watchmen on your walls; they will pray day and night, continually. Take no rest, all you who pray to the Lord. (7) Give the Lord no rest until he completes his work, until he makes Jerusalem the pride of the earth.
(Isaiah 62:6–7 NLT)

One day Jesus taught the apostles to keep praying and never stop or lose hope. He shared with them this illustration: (2) “In a certain town there was a judge, a thick-skinned and godless man who had no fear of others’ opinions.  (3) And in the same town there was a poor widow who kept pleading with the judge, ‘Grant me justice and protect me from my oppressor!’ (4-5) “He ignored her pleas for quite some time, but she kept asking. Eventually he said to himself, ‘This widow keeps annoying me, demanding her rights, and I’m tired of listening to her. Even though I’m not a religious man, and I don’t care about the opinions of others, I’ll get her off my back by answering her claims for justice and I’ll rule in her favor. Then she’ll leave me alone.’ ” (6) Jesus continued, “Did you hear what the godless judge said—that he would answer her persistent request? (7) Don’t you know that God, the true judge, will grant justice to all his chosen ones who cry out to him night and day? He will pour out his Spirit upon them. He will not delay to answer you and give you what you ask for. (8) God will give swift justice to those who don’t give up. So be ever praying, ever expecting, in the same way as the widow. Even so, when the Son of Man comes back, will he find this kind of undying faith on earth?”
(Luke 18:1–8 TPT)

The following excerpt is taken from In a Pit With a Lion on a Snowy Day by Mark Batterson:

Prayer Mode

Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.

If you want to make the most of every opportunity, you’ve got to “devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful.”

The word watchful is a throwback to the Old Testament watchmen whose job it was to sit on the city wall, scan the horizon, and keep watch. They were the first ones to see an attacking army or traveling traders. People who live in prayer mode are watchmen. They see farther than others see. They see things before others see them. And they see things other people don’t see.

People who live in prayer mode see opportunities that other people don’t even notice. People who don’t live in prayer mode are opportunity blind.

There are only two ways to live your life: survival mode or prayer mode.

Survival mode is simply reacting to the circumstances around you. It is a pinball existence. And to be perfectly honest, it’s predictable, monotonous, and boring.

Prayer mode is the exact opposite. Your spiritual antenna is up, and your radar is on. Your reticular activating system is on red alert. Prayer puts you in a proactive posture. In fact, the Aramaic word for prayer, slotha, means “to set a trap.” Prayer helps us catch the opportunities God throws our way.

If Benaiah had been in survival mode, he would have reacted to the situation by running away from the lion. But living in prayer mode made him proactive. He knew that God was ordering his footsteps even when they crossed paths with paw prints. He knew that the lion was lunch.

Living in prayer mode is the difference between seeing coincidences and providences. Prayer has a way of helping us recognize that what we might dismiss as human accidents are really divine appointments. All I know from personal experience is this: When I pray, providences happen. When I don’t pray, they don’t happen.

Now let me take some of the pressure off. You don’t have to manufacture opportunities. In fact, you can’t manufacture them. That’s part of God’s portfolio. He is preparing good works in advance. And that ought to give us tremendous sense of destiny. You will have plenty of God-ordained opportunities. Your job is to see and seize those opportunities by turning to the still, small voice of the Holy Spirit. And you’ll be amazed at the way those spirit whispers get you where God wants you to go.

Prayed…

Father, we thank You for Your word and for wisdom
You are speaking to each and every one of us, Lord
Activate our hearts and our spiritual sensitivity like never before
Lifting up churches all across this nation, that You would cast fresh light upon us
Wake us up, for You have something for each and every one of us
You are making a way for us to be sensitive and responsive to Your voice and Your word
Teach us in the days ahead to wait, to watch, and to listen to Your whispers
We are yielding to You, and we will sync up with Your purposes and with Your heart
Transform this generation more and more to Your will and Your plan
Father, we love and worship You
We plead the blood of Jesus over this community, and we pray that Your grace is upon us
You are plowing through our hearts, and You are opening us up to more of You
Yes, we will respond more and more to You
