Why is faith a rest? Faith is a rest because faith is on the merits of someone else. Not you. You’re resting on the ability of somebody else to perform something for you. It’s like if you talk to your child and say, “If you’re coming over, can you stop and get us some ice.” Then you hang up the phone and you don’t worry about whether he is going to get it. You just give that task over to them. They now have the task. So when you give it to them, what do you do? You let it go. You no longer are responsible to get that job done. That’s why faith is a rest.

It says here “Because I know the Lord, I can rest knowing He’s got me and He’s got my back.” Grace is all that God did for Jesus. Faith is that letting go. And your response to that grace. All you need to do is respond to the grace and that is that when you call up your child and you tell them, “Pick up some ice,” faith is letting go of that and trusting that they’re going to get the ice.

Grace is the deposit. Faith is the withdrawal. So when you call your son and tell him to get a bag of ice on the way over to your house, letting go and trusting that they’re going to do it, is writing the check. It’s saying, “That’s it.” Boom. It’s paid for. It’s so simple. It can’t get any simpler.

The reason we don’t get it is because we don’t act like toddlers. As adults, we take on the responsibility of the children, don’t we? When the children make a mess, we clean up after them. Because they don’t know. They’re two years old. If they have a cheerios mess on the floor, you clean it up. Because that’s your responsibility. So what we tend to do is we get older, we tend to still be like that, the responsible person that cleans up all the messes.

How many here has made a mistake in your life? If you’ve ever made a mistake, that’s like making your cheerio mess on the carpet and grace is walking away from that mess and allowing Him to clean it up. And thanking Him when you come back and you see the mess gone. “Father, thank You for taking care of my needs. Thank you for providing for me.” It’s that simple basic of letting go.

I say that for this reason because for us we somehow we figure we get into our religious thinking that we somehow… I’ve heard people say it this way. God’s not going to do anything if you don’t do anything. How many have heard that? You need to flush that down your toilet and forget that. That’s not even scriptural. What’s my part? I told you what your part was. Your part was resting when you made that phone call and you let go of that. You can go on and do your other stuff now. Act like it’s so. That ice is showing up. You already put in your order. It’s done.

The other day I was walking around. We have rocks on the side of our driveway. Every year, these weeds come up. Every year I have to treat the rocks with a type of chemical. This year I treated the rocks and these weeds started coming up a couple weeks later. I’m thinking, “What’s the deal? It didn’t work.” I picked up the bottle and it said, “one year coverage.” You put this down and for one year you’re not going to see weeds. So I put the chemical down and it’s looking like it’s not doing anything. It’s not looking like it’s working. It’s not working. It’s not working. And all of a sudden, I’m thinking, “Am I going to have to treat it again?” And something inside of me said “Leave it alone! It’s working.” A week later, everything is dead. But with my eyes I saw it not working. So automatically what do I do? We’re conditioned that way.

Aren’t we conditioned when we pray, we think that pray didn’t take. How come it didn’t take? Did I not pray? Was I in sin? You know how we do. Did I pay my tithe? Did I not pray the right prayer? I got to read the scriptures again. You’re always thinking that it’s you that’s the problem. And when you think that way, you are thinking about the law. You are thinking that you are the person that’s responsible for the ice. You’re not responsible for the ice. You’re responsible for just writing the check. Your faith! Trusting in God. That’s all you’re responsible for. Just trusting God. That’s it. Period. Don’t put anymore on there. That’s all you need to do. When you put more on there, that’s why your faith doesn’t work. Because now you’re trying to figure out, “They’re not going to get the ice. Honey, can you watch this. I’m going to go out and get some ice.” You get in the car and you come back with ice and now you have two bags of ice.

See what I’m saying? You’re wasting your time. God doesn’t need your help. He’s the miracle worker. He’s the all-powerful. If He can’t do it, we’re hopeless. The Bible says He’s unchangeable. He’s the same yesterday, today, and forever. He’s perfect. You’re never going to find a mistake within Him. He’s not hard of hearing. He hears your voice when you speak. The Bible says we know He’s our father because He hears our voice. So if He hears us, that’s it. “You heard me. That’s all I have to say about it.”

I’ll leave you with this. Patsy Cameneti was responsible for prayer at Rhema. One time she got really sick. She called up and asked for Brother Hagin to come lay hands on her. He didn’t come until three days. She said after the first day, she was so sick, she was thinking about who was coming to her funeral. What kind of flowers to have. When he came on the third day, he was smiling and jovial and like it was no big deal. She got kind of offended that he didn’t take her situation serious enough to come earlier. “Don’t you know my whole world was falling apart?” She said, “The Lord showed me, ‘this is exactly how you need to be’ to get what he got.” You’re trying to fix the problem. You don’t need to do that. You don’t need to help me. I got it.

All we have to do is let it go. Let it go! If it’s a sickness in your body unto death. What’s the worst thing that could happen to you if you don’t get healed? You’re going to die. What happens after you die? Where do you go? Heaven. What are you worried about? Heaven is far better than here. If you think about it, what you worry about is far less important than trusting and letting go. Just forget about it. It’s not important.

This is the ultimate picture of rest. Matthew 4:26, “Jesus also told them this parable. God’s kingdom realm is like someone spreading seed on the ground. He goes to bed and gets up day after day and the seed sprouts and grows tall, though he knows not how. All by itself, it sprouts. And the soil produces a crop. First the green stem, then the head on the stock, and then the fully developed grain in the head. Then when the grain is ripe, he immediately puts in the sickle to the green because harvest time has come.” So what is the part of the sower? All he did was scatter the seed. Then he went to bed. He didn’t stay up and think about it. “Did I plant that deep enough? Did I give it enough water?” No. He went to bed and he rested. He knew he did what he was supposed to do. He just threw the seed out there.

The Lord reminded me of this. He said He’s compared to someone who reaps where He does not sow. Isn’t that amazing? And think about that. He says that the birds of the air don’t sow, but He takes care of them and feeds them. And the flowers of the field, they don’t toil and spin. But He clothes them greater than Solomon ever was clothed. He says we are much more valuable than them. So we can reap where we do not sow. We’re greater than them. The birds and the flowers. Yet we think that we have to… you get a bill and it’s “I didn’t have time to sow a seed on that.” No! He said you’re better than the birds and the flowers. If He takes care of them, He’s going to take care of you. It’s up to Him. It’s your part to rest.
