Prayer Summary for June 7

Pastor Ray shared…

I want to go over just a couple things. Philippians 3:10-14 states “My determined purpose is that I may know Him.” (Doesn’t that have to be our determined purpose, to know Him?) “Not that I have now attained [this ideal], or have already been made perfect, but I press on to lay hold of (grasp) and make my own, that for which Christ Jesus (the Messiah) has laid hold of me and made me His own. I do not consider, brethren, that I have captured and made it my own [yet]; but one thing I do [it is my one aspiration]: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the [supreme and heavenly] prize to which God in Christ Jesus is calling us upward.”

I read over a couple things this morning about Even Roberts in the Welsh Revival. He might have been 20 or 21 years old, but he felt directed by the Holy Spirit to come back to his home town from college. He asked the pastor of the church if he could speak at the meeting he was to attend and he said to go ahead. That was the beginning of the presence of God coming on the country of Wales and causing revival. He had four tenants or points that he made and they became the tenants for the Welsh Revival.

1. You must confess any known sin.
2. There must be removal of everything doubtful in your life (that’s kind of an interesting way of putting it).
3. Have an entire commitment of the Spirit of God.
4. A public confession of Christ.

Duncan Campbell said, “I don’t care how revival comes, I just want it to come.” And we have gone over that through the years. What if revival breaks out at another church in our area? Would we have our arms crossed and get ticked off that it didn’t happen here or would we be open, yielded to what the presence of the Holy Spirit is doing? It’s just a question. Of course, we pray for this ministry that what God wants to do here He will do. We open up ourselves to it.

Just in reading some things about Even Roberts, he would always make himself less and less and magnify the Lord. A lot of times in his services, he wouldn’t tell people where he would be. He would travel from different churches to different churches but he wouldn’t tell anyone where he was going to be. You would have to be either directed by the Spirit to know where he would be or just believe that God was pouring out a Spirit upon that nation and wherever you were it wasn’t just Evan Roberts, it was the manifestation of the Holy Spirit.

That revival went for three years or so. Someone convinced him that he really shouldn’t be leading the revival. He didn’t really have to have anything to do with it. He actually believed what this person told him and he pulled away from it and when he did, it went down because he had the heart for it. It wasn’t that he was leading it as a man. He was being directed by the Holy Spirit. He was when he came back and he was all the way through it. Many times in his meetings, he would not do anything and he would be the one that would be… Say we have Reggie Scarborough come to Living Word, people come in, they are going to listen to a word he is going to say and he just sits in the front chair for the service. That’s the way it was and they just allow the Holy Spirit to move. I am not trying to make us do or think that we should ever do anything that they did but I like the principles that they went by and so some things that I read about those men and women of God back then. Charles Parham, Evan Roberts, William Seymour and it goes on and on. But they were always careful not to traditionalize what the Spirit was doing and then make it come to no effect. You know what they are saying is just because the Holy Spirit moved a certain way in a certain meeting, it doesn’t mean we can come back and do another meeting and just do what we did then because it’s not then, it’s now and we must yield to Him again and do what He is calling us to do.

So these are six things that men and women of God were known for that were involved with great revivals.

1. They had a passionate, heartfelt desire for worshiping Him
2. They had great consecration to the Holy Spirit, whatever He wants and whenever He wants it.
(Whatever You want here, whatever You want us to pray, whatever You want us to sing, whatever You want us to do, Lord, we come covered in the blood, made righteous by that blood and we yield to You. In other words, we just give over the control; we give ourselves up and give You free reign this morning. Hallelujah, thank You, Lord.)
3. Fasting food often
4. Humble teachable spirit
5. Constantly, passionately in prayer (These are not in order; these are just some points that they stood by.)
6. A heart to serve others rather than be served

Ms. Annie and I were just talking about the Holy Spirit before starting prayer and some things that we experienced years ago in Canada when the Holy Spirit was really moving in Toronto. Not just lifting up one place, it just happened to be a place in the earth where God was being poured out, an awakening. It changed thousands and thousands of lives as they came and just got into that place where the presence was so strong. I want that. I am hungry for it. I thought about this on the service this Sunday. There were some different songs that had already been sung and then Pastor Tim Amstutz was back on the keyboard and all of sudden he started singing “I Exalt Thee.” The presence just hit me. Sometimes the presence can make you joyful and laughing and other times it can just make you weep. That’s what it did for me in that service. The way I always look at it, when He comes and we sense His presence and we yield to it, that’s the key, that He always brings change. Without a doubt, He always brings change and it’s always good. Hallelujah.

We need revival. We need such a strong move of the Holy Spirit that as we have read about it… and like I said I never want to go back, we are called to go ahead, but we can recall and remind ourselves of some things that He did do, not just for us individually but for us corporately for the Church and when we do that, it makes us even more hungry.

I want to have Ms. Annie lead us in worshiping Him with something good. Much of the music during that time in the nineties was vineyard music; to Christians, it was almost like when the Beatles came on the scene and it changed music. That’s what happened then. There were so many different, fresh, Holy Spirit given songs but they were all about Him and calling for more of Him. That’s the way we need to be.

Ms. Annie shared…

When I think about it, the things of God are so precious and we have been so blessed. You know it gets easy to talk about it but then when I really think about it, how holy He is, how beautiful He is… one thing that came to me when you were sharing about all that was… you know I have heard people who were involved back then who were touched by that outpouring of the Holy Spirit which was so, it was just something He decided to do. If you happen to be a recipient of what He decided to do, you were very blessed. I heard comments like I wish He would do that again. Of course, we want Him to but when you read that about the 6 things, I thought you know we do have a part to play, we can continually feast on Him by faith. But, oh, when He touches us… I don’t know what I am trying to say… I feel like how can I even touch the keys when it’s like… so as we spoke about that I was remembering a song. There were so many songs that we would hear as the Holy Spirit was moving and then something would be deposited. This is one that I was very touched by the Holy Spirit and when I hear this song which is not very often anymore but I will sing it to myself sometimes because His presence will touch me then, you know. And each of you probably have special songs that you experience Jesus.

Ms. Annie led us in worshipping Him…

I want to know You, Lord, I must know You
I want to be found in You, I want to be clothed in Your truth
So I fix my eyes on You, Lord, I must see You
I put my faith in You, I spend my life on You
I want to know You, I want to love You
I want to know You more, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus
We worship Jesus, oh Jesus

Just like You promised You come, Just like You told us You’re here
And my desire is that You know I love You, I worship You, I welcome You here
I love You, I worship You, I welcome You here
Just like You promised You come, just like You told us You’re here
And my desire is that You know, I love You, I worship You, I welcome You here
I love You, I worship You, I welcome You here
Jesus, oh Jesus, Jesus, Jesus

I want to know You, Lord, I must know You,
I want to be found in You, I want to be clothed in Your truth
So I fix my eyes on You, Lord, I must see You
I put my faith in You, I spend my life on You
I want to know You, I want to love You
I want to know You more Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus
We worship Jesus, oh Jesus

I am looking for, I am longing for a place where I can lay head upon Your breast
I am looking for, I am longing for a place where I can lay head upon Your breast
Won’t you pour over me, pour over me, Lord of perfect peace
Won’t you pour over me, pour over me, Lord of perfect peace

I am looking for, I am longing for the place where I am in Your rest, in Your rest
I am looking for the time when I can steal away with You to be with You, Jesus
Won’t You pour over me, pour over me Your oil of perfect peace
Pour over me, Pour over me Your oil of perfect peace
Won’t you take me away, take me away where I can be with You
Take me away, Take me away were I can be with You

I am looking for, I am longing for a place where I can lay my head upon Your breast
I am looking for, I am longing for a place to be with You, to be with You
Pour over me, pour over me, Lord of perfect peace
Jesus, pour over me, pour over me, Lord of perfect peace

Pastor Ray shared…

Just lifting Him up I saw myself back over in Jerusalem, Israel at the garden tomb and in the place where they felt Jesus was put on the cross and I just kept watching that and how the Word says “it was finished.” What He did on the cross finished it all. Where the victory was won by the blood was shed on that day at Calvary. I just kept observing and looking at it, the whole scene. And while Ms. Annie lifted Him and we worshiped Him, I felt to just go over first Corinthians even though we don’t have the elements this morning but that’s fine. We can just remind ourselves what He did for us and by faith just go through the communion, really revelation.

I Corinthians 11:23
(23) For I received from the Lord Himself that which I passed on to you [it was given to me personally], that the Lord Jesus on the night when He was treacherously delivered up and while His betrayal was in progress took bread, (24) And when He had given thanks, He broke [it] and said, Take, eat. This is My body, which is broken for you. Do this to call Me [affectionately] to remembrance.

(So we remember what he did how, the stripes that where put upon His back to make us healed today. We remind ourselves of it, what took place on that cross, and the victory that was gained, the sins that were lost.)

(25) Similarly when supper was ended, He took the cup also, saying, This cup is the new covenant [ratified and established] in My blood. Do this, as often as you drink [it], to call Me [affectionately] to remembrance. (26) For every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you are representing and signifying and proclaiming the fact of the Lord’s death until He comes [again].

(We know that it goes on to say we are to discern what He did, bring to remembrance what He did for us then, that it was finished then therefore it is finished now. It has already been done and we have already won. So in reverence this morning, we have been going over it, we have been lifting Him up, welcoming the Holy Spirit’s presence in our lives more today. It is all by believing and receiving and operating in it, believing it is true. We know and are confident that the word is true, what He said about us is true, what He told us we could do. This morning, we are reminding ourselves to yield to more of the precious Holy Spirit, open up our hearts and those things, those little promptings of the Spirit we obey, just do what He tells us to do and watch, receive, and walk out our destiny to its entirety, nothing broken, restored, restored, restored in Jesus’ name.

Now Ms. Annie let’s sing something about the blood. We just make much of it, we honor it. We are reminding ourselves of the position and place that we stand in as members of His body. So we magnify that blood that was shed for us. We do it today.

Annie led us singing about the blood…

Prayed…

Thank You for the power of the blood that’s working today
For each one of us in our personal lives
The things You have called us to do
By faith we cover these things with Your blood: our steps, plans, decisions we have to make daily
No weapon formed against us can prosper because of the protection of that holy blood
We lift and magnify and glorify the power that is in that blood
Cleansing, washing, healing that came forth on that day at Calvary
Thank You for what was done on the Cross that finished it off
We receive it today by faith
All thanksgiving we give it all to You for the days, weeks and months – times that are to come
Believing by faith, washed in the blood, made righteous through that blood
We will obtain victory all the way through and we will finish the race we have been called unto
Thank You for it in Jesus’ name – so be it!
