Prayer Summary for Friday, May 22, 2015

Jerre shared…

There’s a scripture that I like in the Bible. It says the Lord sits in the heavens and laughs at the mere plots of puny men.

Dave shared…

We have a Father who is able to meet exceedingly above all we can imagine or think. It’s cool to have somebody who is so bent on meeting our needs not relative to what we think, but relative to what He thinks. Today on the way in, Barb and I were talking about our kids and something happened recently to them that really blessed them. They were so excited. In both cases, it was a financial thing. It’s great to see a teenager come to you and tell you how good God is. Especially the day we live in now. They’re so stuck in this world that you can’t get them to look up every once and a while. They were so excited about the experience they had, how blessed they were, they were like giddy excited. So excited that they made a big deal of it. When you see somebody win the lottery, they don’t just sit there and say they won the lottery. You go to a football game and the team scores a touchdown, they don’t just sit there and say, “Yah.” They have their faces painted and they’re dressed in all the different sports stuff. That’s kind of the idea. Guess what? We have a team and we have a Spirit that’s greater than any of those spirits.

When you’re blessed, it’s cool to be blessed but it’s way cool to be exceedingly above and beyond all-you-can-imagine blessed. One time we were buying a car for my wife. We went into the dealership and a guy came up and said, “What kind of car are you looking for?” We said we wanted a van. “Let me show you the vans.” He showed us all these vans and the features they had. My wife said, “We want a nicer van than this one.” He said, “We sell the most of this. It’s the most economic and best value for your money.” My wife said, “No, that’s not the one I want.” He reluctantly took us to the vans that were a little more pricey. Finally, by the time we got out of there, the salesman was so upset that we were getting such a good deal. We got a big discount through Chrysler because we did some work for them and by the time we got everything done, we hardly owed anything on the car. I said that to say this. When we drove out of there, it was insulting to the salesman how well and how nice the car was that we got.

When you’re blessed to the point where everybody notices, that’s a good thing. I don’t know about you, but that’s exciting to even think about that God loves me that much. “I don’t want you to wear that one. I want you to wear this one.” And He puts some big robe on you, the robe of righteousness and it has these jewels hanging all over it; and it’s got diamonds and gold all over it and it’s so… how do you say it… it’s so off the charts, it’s so gaudy! God wants us to be gaudy in the way He blesses us and the way the world sees us, He wants us to be gaudy.

One of those things is joy. Having joy on you is a reflection of His goodness to you in your life. If He’s good, you should be happy. Unspeakable and full of glory. That word glory… the very essence of glory is all that God is and all that He has. So when the glory of the Lord appears, with it and inseparable from it, is all that He has and all that He is. That includes healing. That includes provision. That includes joy, peace and just off the chart gaudy stuff. So when you put that robe of righteousness on and it’s off the charts gaudy, it’s not about you. It’s about Him! Got it!

I’ve seen people have stuff that has them. We were sitting at a restaurant having dinner outside and a guy pulled up in his brand new car. He got out and pulled a handkerchief out of his pocket and started to rub his car like this. That’s the wrong kind of having it. If you can’t give it away, you shouldn’t have it. If you can’t be released from it, don’t invest in it. We should be able to be free with our giving and be able to be a person that is on the spot when God wants us to be on the spot. But know this: that when you give it away, there’s always two or three that replace it. That’s the way it is with the Lord. So you see those people where those things own them. But we have the spirit of grace and we’re to manifest that spirit of grace in our lives in the form of joy and victory, health and wholeness so that when people look at you, they have a question in their minds. “What are you so happy about?”

I remember a person saying this to me one time at work: “Every time I see you, you’re smiling. What is up with you?” This person didn’t know me. They just came up to me and saw me at lunch time and asked me that question. I said, “I have a lot to be happy about.” They smiled and said, “Wow, I wish I had that.” We were at the lunch line and he said, “I’ll have what he’s drinking.” That’s how the world should be toward us—“I want what you have.”

In Ephesians 3:14, “When I think of all this I fall on my knees and pray to the father the creator of everything in heaven and earth. I pray that from His glorious unlimited resources He will empower you with inner strength through His spirit. Then Christ will make His home in your heart as you trust in Him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand as all God’s people should how wide, how long, how high, how deep His love is. May you experience the love of Christ though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes in God. Now all glory to God who is able through His mighty power at work within you to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Glory to Him in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout generations forever and ever. Amen.”

This scripture is telling us that the power of the Holy Spirit in us really is the hope of glory. Everything we get from God comes from there. God wants us to experience life more abundantly. Life more abundantly comes from within you. Not from outside of you. To know that you are blessed, to know that you are loved, to know that you are whole, to know that you have peace and you have nothing to worry about. That’s life. That’s what the whole world is looking for. Yet, they strive in different ways. They strive to collect and to accumulate and to define themselves through their jobs and the things they do to give them happiness. Some people get happy buying shoes. I’m not down on shoes, ladies. Or some people are happy buying cars, or some people are happy buying stuff. Some people are just happy that they have a bank account full of money. And this is where they try to accumulate their joy in life.

Think about the person that has 50 billion dollars in the bank. If he went out today and for the rest of his life spent as much money as he could as quick as he could, he could not spend all his money. What does it matter if you have 50 or 10? It doesn’t matter. Those people take their solace in this idea of security. It’s all false. Because in one day, the dollar can go from where it’s at today to nothing. Worthless! And level the playing field—BOOM! Flat! Everybody is the same. So it wouldn’t make any difference. And with the markets that we see today, that can happen. And if your trust is in these things around you, they ground you and you can’t live in that peace and unfailing joy and that victory that God constantly affords to His children. While in prison, Peter had enough joy to sing. How can you do that? How could he do that? It’s because he knew something that other people didn’t know. His focus was on heaven and the Lord. And that’s where true joy and victory comes from. That’s where knowing that you know that you know that you know that you have received.

On Wednesday night after the service, the Lord spoke to my heart about how being filled with the Holy Spirit displaces all the fears and doubts of man. When the Spirit exists in you in its fullness, there is no fear or doubt. All there is, is joy and victory and hope of a new day. Looking forward and excited about a new day. For me in times past, I’ve had situations where I didn’t even want to get out of bed. I’ve been there. We’ve all had bad days. But thank the Lord for the Holy Ghost who stirs us up and when we can’t be stirred up, He sends those crazy friends to you to call you. Those believers helping you to get out of bed and get you excited about how good God is. You’ve got to have friends that pull you up and you pull them up.

Jerre led in song…

The joy of the Lord is my song, song, song. The joy of the Lord makes me so strong, strong, strong. If you want joy, you must sing along, so come on along sing this joy song and you’ll be strong.

Dave shared…

We’re finding our way to this place of being filled with the Holy Ghost. When some people get up in the morning, they need a cup of coffee to get going. In the Spirit, sometimes we need a cup of Holy Ghost coffee, know what I’m saying? We need to get ourselves motivated. Even though you can smell the coffee in your cup… it’s still in your cup! Until you actually get it inside of you, it’s not going to have an effect on you. Understand? You got to pick up that cup and drink it. You actually have to do something. That’s what we’re going to do. Let’s drink out of that cup. Coffee is an acquired taste. Get it? Acquired. You grab it or take it. We acquire that Holy Ghost cup of coffee by downing it. After three or four cups of coffee, you’re wired. That’s what we’re going to do.

Jerre shared…

There’s a well of salvation and with joy you bring up that well. Why are we doing this? First of all, we can’t pray in fear. We can’t pray in lackadaisicalness. We can’t pray out of boredom. We must pray in the victory side.

Jerre led in song…

I have joy in my heart and I’m singing. I have joy in my heart each day. And I’ll be singing till the break of day. Sing hosanna, sing hosanna, sing hosanna to the King of Kings.

The rest of morning prayer was spent exuberantly praising the Lord in song.
