The following commentary to Matthew 24:42-44 is taken from The Revival Study Bible:

Waiting, Watching
Matthew 24:42-44

One afternoon Dr. Joseph Stowell, Moody Bible Institute’s president, was visiting a home for mentally handicapped children. He noticed many beautiful expressions of how these children were learning to love the Lord.

One particular expression was the focus of his attention. On a nearby window pane, there were many tiny hand prints that decorated the glass. He asked a friend who worked there about it. “Oh, those,” his friend said, “the children here love Jesus, and they’re so eager for Him to return that they lean against the window as they look up to the sky.” Dr. Stowell was touched and changed to realize he, too, must wait with anticipation for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

What kind of anticipation do you live with of the return of our Savior? Has your heart been filled with such hopes of revival that you would also lean against the window pane, waiting and watching? Not only should our hearts wait with excitement, but in knowing His return could come at any hour or day should fuel us to bring the reviving message of the gospel wherever we go. It is so easy to fall into a daily routine, almost forgetting what we have been promised in Matthew: Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. So, be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.

We do not know when that hour may be, but may we live in the everyday expectation of that blessed moment. May our hearts seek revival for much more than a moment though and keep it for a lifetime. Then, no matter the hour or day, we will be ready. May the windows of our heart be full of hand prints watching and waiting for the return of our Lord and Savior.

Scripture Focus…

(4) As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, The voice of one crying in the wilderness [shouting in the desert]: Prepare the way of the Lord, make His beaten paths straight. (5) Every valley and ravine shall be filled up, and every mountain and hill shall be leveled; and the crooked places shall be made straight, and the rough roads shall be made smooth; (6) And all mankind shall see (behold and understand and at last acknowledge) the salvation of God (the deliverance from eternal death decreed by God).
(Luke 3:4-6 Amp.)

Prayed…

Lord, we worship and magnify Your name!
We love Your Word and we humble ourselves before You
Your plans are always good!
Calling the valleys, mountains and crooked places to be smoothed out
Everything blocking our faith MUST be removed!
Father, we want to be real with You!
Lord, You are for us and always on our side!
We always welcome You to speak to our hearts!
Let Your wisdoms flow to the Church in a greater degree than ever before
Open ears, hearts, and eyes!
Straighten those things out now
Bring revelations, answers, and creative ideas
We reach toward You!
Those mountains must come down and be leveled out in Jesus’ name!
Every word from heaven is a good word!
We take those steps so we can be closer to you and hear your word clearly
Lord, let it rain – we want to get wet!
Rain over our families and ministries
It is time to come up now
Preparations going forth all across the earth
Eyes to see and ears to hear the call of Your Spirit
The watchers are watching, but there must be more!
We see a drawing by the Spirit
You are calling us, Lord, to listen!
Moving to a higher highway of holiness
These are daily choices we make
We find abundance of every kind on this highway
Calling others to come up to that place in the Spirit
Everything changes in the presence of God!
Lord, thank You for filling us up again
By faith, we receive an infusion of your strength and peace!
