I read brother Hagin’s book on Plans, Purposes, and Pursuits. I read the beginning where he described how Jesus had appeared to him and took him up over the convention center in Tulsa and showed him what would take place in a seminar that was coming up. This book was a result of things that he heard from Jesus about worship, praise, clapping, dancing, and the like. That was in 1987. One of the things he stressed was that in the Charismatic movement, worship had become casual. They had like a “hip hip horray” kind of attitude. That’s the way brother Hagin put it… especially the clapping part. I feel like a lot of times we slip back in our services and try to praise Him through clapping. If you don’t understand what brother Hagin meant by that, you can read it in his book, Plans, Purposes, and Pursuits. When that book came out, that’s when our dance team was retired. Pastor Lynne plugged the plug right there. His point was to be sure that we reverence Him.

Of course, there is praise. Of course, there can be dancing before Him. But clapping is not praise to Him. It’s applause. And Jesus made it so clear that we are to lift our hands and worship Him, not clap. Brother Hagin gave an example. Right after he had that revelation, he was doing Holy Ghost meetings in Detroit. They were worshiping the Lord, and then one of the Rhema Singers had a word from the Lord in song. He began singing a song, fresh words from heaven came forth. Something he sang stirred the people and they began to clap. And the singer just stopped and said, “Could you please not do that. Hold your clapping.” Everyone became still and he was able to finish the songs.

Brother Hagin said that sometimes things get stopped right in the middle of a word or prophecy because the people get so excited. It’s understandable, but we have to be careful to always reverence Him. He said he asked all the ministers that were present if they noticed a difference in the presence of God when that singer stopped the music and asked the people, “Please don’t clap.” Everyone said, “Yes.” His presence came when the people began to reverence Him.

Jerre shared…

Before I came here today, I was lifting up my heart to the Lord, saying, “Where am I at? Am I in the right place? What do You want?” I heard this, “stop praying in tongues.” The Lord said to listen for a minute. He wanted me to listen. He said, “Change is coming.” I thought, okay, that means I’m not to hold onto anything too tightly so that I’m able to change with Him. I forgot that the Pastor has been teaching on change. So don’t hold onto anything too tightly. Be willing to change.

One time when I was singing a song, the Lord asked me, “How do you see Me, Jerre?” That’s kind of a loaded question. Similar to the question Peter was asked, “Peter, do you love Me?” He said, “How do you see Me?” I said, “Lord, I see You in perfection.” I thought that was a good answer. He said, “I’d rather you see Me in love, because that is perfection.” In perfection, one has a tendency to strive. But when we see the Lord and His love, that is perfection. So perfection or excellence comes under the love of God.

As Pastor Dave was singing, I began to see some highlights of change in our old building, when change came. There have been many changes over all the years.

The Holy Spirit said to me, “Change has taken place in this ministry this past week” [during Andrew Wommack meetings]. Two words that Andrew used was “paradigm shift.” He kept saying that—paradigm shift. It could be a shift in how we pray in tongues. It could be a shift in what we see or know or hear or how we obey. I don’t know what all it is. Pastor Mac has been teaching on change. We better have our ears open to hear what the Spirit will say and what He’s calling us as a church to walk out. We’ve got to be open for change.

Woman: The Lord impressed on me as we were praying the flexibility and agility of a monkey. Monkeys can hold onto a tree with their feet and hands and they can move in any direction. I believe the Lord was telling me that change has come, change is here. But, you know, change can come and you not be changed. You can be in the middle of change and not be changed at all. So I don’t want to be that. I want my spirit to be as flexible and as agile as the monkeys, so whichever way the Lord wants me to go, I will be able to go.

This is how the Lord put it. Can you see a dry tree? You cannot bend that tree. You would have to cut it down to make it change position. I don’t want to be that. I don’t want us to be that. I don’t want people to come from outside and change at Living Word and me being here as a pray-er not change. So my prayer this morning is that we be as flexible and as agile and as obedient toward the Holy Spirit and what He wants us to do. And we will flow with the change of the Holy Spirit.

I have something to share. There’s an old song and I’m not sure who sang this. I think it was Amy Grant. But it goes, “Are you a poor and lonely grape clutching to the vine waiting for the day to become your Savior’s wine? Don’t give up hope, ye heavy laden, you don’t want to be a raisin.” She was talking about being dry. There’s a great grape joy in Jesus! Ha! That came to me when prayer first started and I wondered, where does it fit? Joy and refreshing causes you not to be that raisin that’s holding on, but allows you to receive and to flow with the change. So you can be used.
