Prayer Summary for August 21

Prayed…

Lord, we receive Your joy by faith
We have been equipped to walk out the call You have placed on our lives
We are tuned up and tuned in to more of You!
The door has been opened, and we have stepped into more of You
New days, new turns, new revelation, insight, and purpose
Our ears are open to hear Your voice
Lord, we agree with Your Word and the call on our lives
We put all of our hope and trust in Your name!
Blockages, obstacles, and wrong ideas, back off in Jesus’ name!
The Holy Ghost is setting the Church on fire like never before
She will burn bright for all the world to see that Jesus Christ is Lord!

Scripture Focus…

(7) “But the end and culmination of all things has now come near; keep sound minded and self-restrained and alert therefore for [the practice of] prayer. (8) Above all things have intense and unfailing love for one another, for love covers a multitude of sins [forgives and disregards the offenses of others]. (9) Practice hospitality to one another (those of the household of faith). [Be hospitable, be a lover of strangers, with brotherly affection for the unknown guests, the foreigners, the poor, and all others who come your way who are of Christ’s body.] And [in each instance] do it ungrudgingly (cordially and graciously, without complaining but as representing Him). (10) As each of you has received a gift (a particular spiritual talent, a gracious divine endowment), employ it for one another as [befits] good trustees of God’s many-sided grace [faithful stewards of the extremely diverse powers and gifts granted to Christians by unmerited favor]. (11) Whoever speaks, [let him do it as one who utters] oracles of God; whoever renders service, [let him do it] as with the strength which God furnishes abundantly, so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ (the Messiah). To Him be the glory and dominion forever and ever (through endless ages). Amen (so be it).”
(1 Peter 4:7–11 Amp.)

The following commentary to 1 Peter 4:7-11 is taken from The Revival Study Bible:

What If You Had Only Twenty-Four Hours to Live?
1 Peter 4:7-11

What would you change if you only had twenty-four hours to live? What would you do and what would you not do if you knew that a countdown had started? Peter writes here that “the end of all things is at hand.” And he gives us four attitudes to pursue in these end times.

Always Alert (4:7)
The word means to emphasize what is correct and to prioritize what is essential. The opposite of alert or sober is drunkenness. And Peter was saying, “Don’t let anything impair your judgment.”

Years ago, the Chinese built the famous Great Wall of China to protect them from the barbaric hordes from the north. It was so high they knew no one could climb it, and so thick no one could break it down. But during the first one hundred years of the wall’s existence, China was invaded three times. Not once did the barbaric hordes break down the wall or climb over the top. Each time they bribed the gatekeeper and marched right through the gates. Your eyes, ears, and mind are the gatekeepers to the heart; do not let them be bribed.

Always Affectionate (4:8–9)
To be fervent in love is to be stretched in love. If you want to know what this kind of love is all about, look at John 15:12–17. The passage ends and begins with the same command to “love one another.” What is in between? Biblical love is always sacrificial, not a feeling but an activity, one of intimacy, initiated, and productive.

Always Available (4:10-11)
No one is without significance in the body of Christ. Every gift counts. Good stewardship of the grace of God involves not just staying saved but being used by God. Peter says employ that gift.

Always Adoring (4:11)
It always comes back to giving God the glory in what we do.
